Designer's Description
Pentomino Calendar Puzzle

This is a 3D-printable Pentomino Calendar Puzzle. The puzzle is a fun and challenging way to display the current date. The goal is to fit all 12 pentomino pieces onto the board, leaving only the current month and day uncovered.

This puzzle is a great daily challenge for your desk or coffee table.

Two Versions Available

This download includes two versions of the calendar base:

  • Gregorian: The standard international calendar.
  • Persian: The Persian (solar) calendar.

Choose the one that you prefer to print.

Parts

This project consists of four main parts to print:

  • Base: The main board with the grid for the days and months. There are two versions of the base available (Gregorian and Persian). You only need to print one.
  • Lid: A cover for the puzzle to keep the pieces safe.
  • Tiles: 12 pentomino pieces. You need to print all 12 of them.
  • Stand: An optional stand to hold the puzzle.

All the necessary STL files are provided.

Printing Instructions

Print the base, lid, and all 12 tiles.

For the text on the base to be a different color, you can use a filament change feature in your slicer at the layer where the text begins. This creates a nice two-color effect without needing a multi-material system.

The lid and base have holes for 6x2mm magnets to snap them together. If you don't have magnets, you can use a drop of glue instead.

How to Play

Place all 12 pentomino pieces on the base. Arrange the pieces to cover all the squares except for the current month and day. There is at least 50 solutions for every day of the year!

If you get stuck or don't want to spend time solving the puzzle, you can use this online solver: Pentomino Puzzle Solver. or this one (which is Online)

Customization

If you want to customize the calendar, for example, by adding a personal message, changing the font, or adjusting the dimensions, you can visit the GitHub repository for this project. The OpenSCAD source files and instructions are available there. Also I try my best to keep the printable version up to date, but the github always has the latest version.

Inspiration and Credits

This project was inspired by the Calendar Puzzle by 3D-PRINTING-4U.(https://www.printables.com/model/419866-calendar-puzzlehttps://www.printables.com/model/419866-calendar-puzzle) While none of the assets or code from that project were used, it served as a great starting point.
