Parametric Scrabble Tile Generator + Portuguese Scrabble Tile Set
I was looking to make a scrabble tile set in a language that isnt available where i'm from. couldn't find any solutions so i used “von potatoad”'s great file as a basis to make my own. Now that the thing is spun up and works relatively hassle-free I decided to share it to the community.
Open the file in OpenSCAD and use the parameter table to customize the scrabble tile to your liking.
Potential use cases and features:
- Use non-standard characters
- assign different point values to the letters according to the language of your choosing (helpful charts for official and unofficial point distributions for different languages can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble_letter_distributions )
- 2 separate text boxes on the tile with separate alignment and sizing options - one for the letter, one for the point value
- ability to engrave or extrude the textboxes with customizable heights (or do a combination of both)
- customizable size of the actual tiles
TROUBLESHOOTING TIP: if you want to extrude the letters on the tile, for some reason the threshold is “-2mm” (so a value of -3 actually extrudes the letter for 1 mm).
for inspiration i included the set i created. it's the portuguese language version of the scrabble tiles with their appropriate point values and distributions. For anyone who wants to print the full set, I have included the number of copies you have to print for each tile according to the official portuguese rule-set in the file-name. example: “M1gr x6” needs to be printed 6 times, “L2gr x5” is printed 5 times and so on.
the letters and point values in these example files are raised 1mm. designed to be printed with a 0.2mm layer height. I recommend you add a pause in your slicer BEFORE layer 21, change filament to a different color, and resume printing to get the extruded letters/numbers to really pop. iron the top surfaces for a smooth finish.
just make sure you don't have any cheaters who try to recognize the raised letters by feel when they're grabbing new tiles from the bag ;)
