Designer's Description

This is a custom, optional token for the board game Dominant Species. It does not replace anything from the original components - it's an additional token meant to help keep track of the situation on the map.

At the end of each round, endangered species without access to food become extinct (removed from the game). After a few plays we found it inconvenient to scan the whole board in search of the endangered species. We found it easier to mark such species during the round - and this is where these tokens came in handy. Whenever the situation on the board changes and some animals become endangered, we mark them immediately. Then at the end of the round it's way easier to locate species to eliminate.

We printed 5 tokens and it seems to be enough for any game of Dominant Species so far.

Of course you can use these tokens in any other way, in any other game - their design (crossed bones, or X, however you look at them) seem to be quite universal.
