Moe's Low Poly Monopoly Streets

THIS IS MOE'S LOW POLY ADD-ON… his personal tribute to monopoly. I added Street Names, Hotels, Houses and a Foldable Game Board that can be used with Moe's street models.

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU START PRINTING. Be Warned! This project requires 16 colors and approximately 160 hours to print the streets and buildings as 36 4-color print jobs, plus another 61 hours to print the Folding Game Board. 221 hours in total! So it is a BIG project. But it will really impress your friends! If for no other reason than to show them that you are either mad, crazy, a nutter, certifiable, or all of the above.

So what is this Add-on and what is it not?

First it is not a complete version of the monopoly game. It is an add-on, the purchase of an original Monopoly game to act as a doner for the Chance, Community Chest, die, property cards, etc. is required to play this! Beside that, it is many things at once each Street/Building combination is unique, making it visually interesting and a great example what 3d-printing is all about :-)

When Moe first thought about making an add-on for this game, there were two main aspects that he wanted to realise:

• Make the game more versatile
• Making the game open to new ideas for everyone

Beside that, Moe also wanted to keep the core aspects oft he game and not change it entirely. It was quite a challenge, do to the fact that there are hundreds of different monopoly-versions out there and that Moe wanted to come up with a solution that you are able to play with this add-on no matter what kind of version you have at home. This is why Moe added letters to all the streets and why I had to create separate parts to hold the cards. I added optional street names to make the board familiar to players of the classic monopoly game. Moe decided to stick to the original size of the game board as well.

The designs you find here is the basic framework for a new monopoly experience, made with your 3D-printer. In contrast to Moe's settler of catan add-ons (that can be found here ) he won’t produce any new content for this project. So feel free to implement your own ideas and help to make them available for the community. To make this easier for you, Moe designed the whole set with tinkercad and used a simple design-stile. You can download, access and change all the designs from TinkerCAD here to realize your own ideas of the game. LET US BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO THIS GAME ! :-)

Here are the main aspects to make this add-on for the game versatile and open-source:

• The color the streets are printed with or painted and the letter that is on top of them. This makes it possible to identify the correct card with the value of the corresponding street-element.
• The smaller side-road that points upward : This element can be used to add new parts to the game, where a player could move to during the game or that do have a certain effect on the connected street-element.
• The exchangeable elements in the upper left corners of most street-parts: This element is used to show the prices for each street-part when they are unsold and to reward the player with a nice building, when he bought this part of the street. But this element could be used for many other ideas, as new add-ons to the parts that give them new features for example.

ASSEMBLY:
To assemble the game street pieces you need some glue. You need to glue together the glue the Buildings and Street Names to the Street Bases that you find in the street parts for each neighborhood. Refer to Figure 1.

After assembling the Foldable Game Board glue each of the street assembilies to it.

On each Base plate there are 2 triangular tags associated with each street. These tags can be used with the cardholder STL to frame each of the games property cards, identifing a property's cost and the letter label associated with it. The 'Cardholders for Moe's Low Poly Monopoly Streets' 3MF file can be used to print them.

To prepare a Cardholder, insert a monopoly card into a holder, then glue the two assoiated corner pieces to it, to hold the card in place, as shown in Figure 2. Note, that Cardholders do not fit in the Foldable Game Board Player or Banker boxes, however there is enough room in the Game Box to store them.

PREPARATION OF THE GAME using Cardholders:

• Insert all the cards from your original monopoly game into the cardholders with the correct color, number and letter
• Place the streets, corners, taxes, chances and community card pieces on top of your original monopoly or arrange them in a way you like to play the game.
• Place the corresponding costs of every street-element on top in the upper left corner and put the other buildings that fit into that space aside.
• Everything else stays the same as in the original game

DURING THE GAME:

• When you buy a street in a neighborhood you can take away the price and put the additional building there as a reward.
• The colors of the corners of the cardholders, the number and the letter do indicate the following:
• to which street-element the card corresponds (number & color)
• the original price of the street element
