Tornado Rex Top

Designer's Description

This prints cleanly with no supports in PLA on most well tuned printers at 0.2mm layer height. Due to ABS shrink you may need to size up 1% or so to get the proper fit with
the top and the launcher. Untested with PETG, as that plastic is evil and it hates me.

The parts are both oriented in the proper way for printing, just drop in your slicer and go.

The lid is sized to press fit, but should be held in place with CA glue (super glue, krazy glue...whatever you want to call it.)

There is a built-in support underneath the lid. If you look in your slicer at 2mm you'll see the center piece has a gap, as well as a couple channels to give you pry spots to remove the support.
If your print of the top piece allows you to pry this support off, you can probably get away with printing the bottom with infill. If you can't, then I recommend printing the bottom portion with 100% infill to ensure the proper weight distribution for the top to actually spin.

Lastly, you might want to take some very fine sandpaper to the spinning surface of the top to clean off the layer lines a little.

This does also print well in resin (Use TopTop Resin.stl which doesn't have the included support), and I had reasonably good luck with a Blu/Tenacious mix to keep things clear. It even whistles, which I was absurdly proud of at the time. My original hope was that I could add the original little paper guy in and stay as close to the official part as possible…but I never got quite that far. Maybe someone else will take this and add a threaded cap and some holders so that it's closer to a duplicate of the original.
