Typ-Dom, Austrian Scrabble by Franz Weigl (Replika)

The design replicates the vintage Austrian Scrabble-like game called Typ-Dom by Franz Weigl. It aims to preserve the nostalgic and retro feel of the original game design.

This model is suited for enthusiasts who appreciate classic word games and wish to have a reminiscence of Austrian gaming history in their collection.

Utilize a multi-material 3D printer to achieve the distinct color contrasts of each tile. High-resolution settings are advised to capture the intricate letter details.

After printing, the puzzle pieces should slot together effortlessly. Check alignment during assembly to ensure word completion without gaps.

One success story is Typ-Dom by Franz Weigl (1902–1996). The enterprising Viennese game inventor worked in many professions and supposedly had the idea while watching a child play with letter tiles. A first patent application was rejected in 1935, but a year later, Weigl received the patent for Austria and several other European states.

Typ-Dom (Type-Domino) is a mixture of crossword puzzles and dominoes. Weigl combined the tradition of word puzzles with that of matching games involving numbers, which likely originated in China and arrived in Europe in the 18th century. In Typ-Dom, a player must form their own word by using a letter from the formation placed by the previous player as a connection point.

I printed it with 15% infill, 2 layers in height, no support needed. PLA in black and red. 50 black tiles with consonants.
