In 1929 John Sands Pty Ltd entered the Indoor games business with production of the game "Tripoley". This side of the business expanded rapidly and throughout the second half of the 20th Century the name John Sands became synonymous with Australian games. Board game popularity probably reached its zenith when John Sands was an Australian distributor for Milton Bradley from the 1960s to the 1990s. John Sands did produce some very uniquely Australian games such as, Surfboard, Ko the Koala, Skippy and Digit Dicks Walkabout. John Sands has ceased making board games now for over 20 years. The John Sands Family relinquished control of the company after 141 years in 1978 but retained its name and became part of a global company. It now produces greetings cards. Citation details G. P.
