Paul Koenig
My first wargame was Avalon Hill's D-Day (1977) in 1979. I was 12 years old. That was soon followed by the boxed version of SPI's Kharkov. My first strategic game was AH's Third Reich. My former next door neighbor has been my constant gaming companion for more than 30 years. I began playtesting games in the late 1980s. My first playtest was GRD's Second Front. I have been credited with playtesting so many titles…

that I lost track long ago of all of them. My first design that was purchased by a publisher was Shiloh: Bloody April, 1862. It uses a modified version of the intermediate game system of AH's Gettysburg 1977. It was published in issue #264 of S&T. My first published game was Paul Koenig's D-Day: The Canadian Beach. All five games in the series use the same system, which was adapted from Paul Rohrbaugh's Blood & Steel. PKDD will be going out of print by VPG in late July or early August 2015. There are plans to expand the series, adding an additional map to each game and allowing all five games to be linked together. Paul Koenig's Market-Garden series uses a similar system to PKDD. Arnhem, Eindhoven, and Nijmegen are all now available from VPG. XXX Corps is now being designed, which will be both a stand-alone game and an expansion kit to link all four games in the series into a single campaign. My next design published by VPG was Paul Koenig's The Bulge: 6th Panzer Army. Both 5th Panzer Army and the 7th Army Expansion are in development. Other possible series for VPG include Paul Koenig's Eastern Front, and Paul Koenig's Pacific Battles. In 2013 I formed my own company, Paul Koenig Games (PKG). Our first game was Chancellorsville: Bloody May, 1863. This is volume 2 in Paul Koenig's Bloody Civil War Series. Volume 1 was Shiloh: Bloody April, 1862, published in S&T 264 in 2010. Chancellorsville was followed six months later by Paul Koenig's Fortress Europe, which was adapted from Avalon Hill's Fortress Europa. The latest PKG release is Gettysburg: Bloody July, 1863, volume 3 in the series. Gettysburg and the second editions of both Chancellorsville and Fortress Europe are now available at www.paulkoeniggames.com. Planned for later in 2015 is Chickamauga: Bloody September, 1863 (volume 4) and the Designer's Edition of Chester Hendrix's Bastogne or Bust. We will finish out the year with Fortress Europe Italy, which is both a stand-alone game and an expansion kit to PKFE. Other designs in the works include Antietam: Bloody September, 1862 and Tora! Tora! Tora!.
