conducting ten extended afloat deployments to the Eastern Pacific and Indian Oceans which included participating in Operations RESTORE HOPE, DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, and IRAQI FREEDOM. He also received a master's degree in National Security Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and was designated a Joint Operations Specialist. Since retirement in 2005 he has focused on community service and other volunteer activities, and worked as an independent boardgame designer and developer for Victory Point Games.
