Irad "Terry" B. Hardy, III (c. 1943 - June 5, 2016) was an American wargame designer,business executive, and amateur historian who was the head of research and development staff for SPI (Simulations Publications, Inc.). winning a chess contest in Central Park, he received a call and invitation from the Pentagon where he apparently beats all of their senior strategists in various military scenarios. He advised the military on battlefield strategy and tactics. One of his most controversial wargame was Firefight, the first battle of the next war after Vietnam. He should not be confused with his father, Irad B. Hardy, Jr. (October 12, 1913 in Gloucester, Massachusetts - January 28, 1993 Waltham, Massachusetts), who was the former chief of surgery at Waltham-Weston Hospital and Medical Center, graduating from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School where he was an All-American football player at the tackle position. During World War II, Irad B. Hardy, Jr. served as a Navy Captain combat surgeon assigned to the 4th Marine Division artillery with the 4th Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, and Iwo Jima where he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for saving lives. On February 4, 2008, his grandson U.S. Navy Seal Chief Petty Officer Nathan H. Hardy, a nephew of Irad B. Hardy, III, was killed conducting combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
