If you have space for something longer, I suggest the following: Joining Games Workshop at the age of nineteen, Gav Thorpe was a staff writer and games developer on the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 universe for fourteen years, and has also written novels in those worlds for the past fifteen years and more. His most popular works include The Sundering trilogy, the Path of the Eldar, works from the Horus Heresy series including Deliverance Lost, the audio dramas Raven’s Flight and Honour to the Dead, and the New York times best-selling novella The Lion. His novel Warbeast won the 2017 David Gemmell Legend Award for Fantasy. He is published by Angry Robot books where you can find his epic swords-and-sandals fantasy saga gathered in the omnibus collection entitled Empire of the Blood. Gav has worked on, and is currently working on, numerous tabletop and video games, including as a designer, writer and world creation consultant. He also delivers workshops at writing events such as the Derby Literature Festival, and regularly appears on panels at conventions such as FantasyCon and EdgeLit. He lives near Nottingham with his partner Kez and baby boy Sammy. If you are really interested in my life story, then get comfy, get your favourite tipple and read the following… I designed my first wargame aged eight or thereabouts, using Airfix plastic soldiers. I (mis-)spent my teenage years reading fantasy, sci-fi and horror stories, painting miniatures, playing games and dreaming of other worlds. At the tender age of nineteen I started work as an Assistant Games Developer for Games Workshop. I spent fourteen years at GW working in games development, on White Dwarf magazine and (for the time it existed) the Key Design Team. This means I’ve written a lot of words about the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 universes, and back then played lots and lots of games, and much more besides. When Games Workshop launched a new fiction imprint called Black Library I spread my wings into tie-in fiction with a short story entitled Birth of a Legend. That was in 1997, and over forty novels and even more short stories ago. I was also one of the initial line up of authors when Angry Robot Books started life in 2008, with my first original fiction novel, The Crown of the Blood. In other work, I wrote the script and voice-overs for the Mark of Chaos computer game, and contributed to a number of non-fiction titles including Hobby Games: 100 Best and Family Games: 100 Best books, an essay in Speculative Fiction 2012 and a few other titles. A more complete list of titles is available on the Books page. I left Games Workshop to live the life of a freelance pirate in 2007, but have continued to work in games design. I have designed, co-developed and consulted on a number of titles both for tabletop play and in the world of video games.
