eclectic designer of train games, all of his games were completely different than each other. Mood was the hallmark of Dieter’s games, with corruption being prevalent in ‘Transsib’ and free market capriciousness driving ‘Lokomotive Werks’. Dieter’s masterpiece, in the opinion of John Bohrer, was his ‘Union vs. Central’ game. No other game captures the mood of building railroads as captivatingly as UvC. Building railroads in the wilderness of the wild west of America was not an easy or trivial job, it required continuous focus and relentless effort. The short version of UvC takes normal people 8 hours to play, the full game about 16 hours. Dieter was well known in the gaming circles of Germany, attending many game designer meetings and workshops and having many friends with his hearty laugh, excellent sense of humor and pleasant manner. Dieter developed serious health problems around 2015 and essentially disappeared soon thereafter. This is a devastating loss for train gamers everywhere and his outstanding memorial is his design of superlative train games. We all miss you, Dieter.
