About the Game

Spoing is a capture game that can be played with a Series: Shibumi set , as it uses a 4x4 holes board and balls in three colours (white, black and red).

Setup:

Place 8 black balls and 8 white balls according to this figure. Red balls are considered ‘neutral’:

● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○

Rules:

Two players, White and Black, alternate turns moving a ball of their colour or a neutral ball (red) to jump over a single ball of another colour and land on any ball to capture it. Jumps may be diagonal (as per Checkers) or orthogonal. Players must capture a ball each turn. The ball landed on is removed and the ball jumped over is converted to the colour that is not the jumper or the jumpee, e.g. if the jumper is a white ball and the jumpee is a black ball then the jumpee gets replaced with a neutral ball (red).

The game ends immediately when a player can't move on their turn (which could happen if there are not three balls in a row somewhere, or if all remaining triples are unusable by the player). The winner is the player with the most balls of their colour on the board.
