Pandemic: In the Lab - Game Organizer
*Description:*
This is a game organizer for the board game expansion Pandemic: In the Lab by ZMan Games. This was the second expansion released for the original Pandemic game. The out-of-the-box organizer is not terrible, but I like a bit more structure and of course, I prefer to sleeve my cards.
*Compatibility:*
Pandemic: In the Lab (2013)
Pandemic: State of Emergency (2015)
As far as I can find, there is only one version of these expansions currently.
It may seem a bit odd that I list the last two expansions as compatible, while having a separate release for SoE. The reality is that as far as the pieces go, the biggest difference between the two expansions is the Cure vials, which need thumb holes to remove them from the trays. If you have both expansions, you can use this distribution interchangeably.
*Background:*
In this expansion, ZMan Games tried to improve their out-of-the-box organizer and account for the stuff in the other expansions. Despite their and my own best effort, any one box is too small to contain everything from all four boxes in an organized fashion. You might be able to get it to work with everything loose, but who wants that? With my organizers, you can consolidate all four boxes down to two boxes, but if you only have the base game and this expansion, you can get it down to one box using just the models from this distribution.
The addition of the vials as a cure marker was an interesting thought, but they are kind of big and they are a huge pain to get out of the included organizer. I think my solution works a bit better.
I originally started designing this organizer so that each virus had its own stand-alone tray, but then I decided that I'd make them able to be interlocked. I really like the design, so that is what I consider the official build. I included the stand alone tray since I had already designed it.
*Inventory:*
Filament estimates are based on a 15% Gyroid infill and a brim for the wide models:
- Pandemic (All) - Tray - Setup: 72.84 * 2 = 145.68
- Pandemic (ItL) - Tray - Virus (L): 17.40 * 1 = 17.40
- *Pandemic (ItL) - Tray - Virus (M): 18.86 * 3 = 56.58
- *Pandemic (ItL) - Tray - Virus (R): 19.89 * 1 = 19.89
- Pandemic (ItL-SoE) - Tray - Pieces (Standard) (L): 21.17 * 2 = 42.34
- *Pandemic (ItL-SoE) - Tray - Pieces (Standard) (M): 23.39 * 1 = 23.39
- *Pandemic (ItL-SoE) - Tray - Pieces (Standard) (R): 25.02 * 2 = 50.04
*Alternates:*
- Pandemic (ItL) - Tray - Virus: 16.76 * 5 = 83.80
- Pandemic (ItL-SoE) - Tray - Pieces (Compact) (L): 16.94 * 2 = 33.88
- *Pandemic (ItL-SoE) - Tray - Pieces (Compact) (M): 18.45 * 1 = 18.45
- *Pandemic (ItL-SoE) - Tray - Pieces (Compact) (R): 19.55 * 2 = 39.10
Total Materials: 345.25 - 355.32 (353.05 - 363.12 w/Cards Model + Compact)
\* = Requires Supports
If you only purchase this distribution for the base game and this expansion or just for this expansion and want to go for the default setup:
Print 2x of Setup, and 1x of the Virus L and R models, and 3x of the Virus M model, along with 2x of the Pieces (Standard) L and R models and 1x of the Pieces (Standard) M model.
If you purchased the original game distribution for the Cards model and prefer it:
Print 2x of the Cards, 1x of the Setup, 1x of the Virus L and R models, and 3x of the Virus M model, along with 2x of the Pieces (Compact) L and R models and 1x of the Pieces (Compact) M model.
For both tray sets you can print them in either the L/M/M/M/R configuration or the L/M/R, L/R configuration based on your own preference. I like the one tray configuration for the Virus model and the 2 tray configuration for the Pieces myself.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that the interlocking trays will be difficult to combine and separate at first, but with a few repetitions, they do come apart easier.
