Carcassonne Tile Grid

This is my take on a tile grid for Carcassonne board game. There's a bunch of these out there, I tried to put my own spin on it.

I printed with .2 layer height no supports needed.

I created 3 different sizes of sections (read below for explanation of sizes), but all are based on same principles.

UPDATE 2026-07-25: For those with large bed printers, there is now a 4th size, Grid_5x5

• When tiles are connected they create a full tile spot where connected.
• When a tile is on the board, pressing any corner of the tile lifts the other corner for easy removing of that tile.
• Can play on back side of the sections. If desired, use bottom side the sections (upside down) if wanting to be able to have tiles butted up to each other, but still want to be able to reposition the board. You don't get advantage of the orderly tile spots, but some may prefer not having the gap between tiles.

Profile Explanation

As stated there are 3 sizes (now 4), and I opted to create a different profile for each size(although they all have same print settings). NOTE: all sizes can connect to each other.

Grid_3x3 = The 3x3 grid section has 9 full tile spots and 1/2 tile spot on all sides. The beauty of the 3x3 grid section is that they connect to each other in any configuration. As noted above, joining two 3x3 together will create 7 full spots across them. One could print only these. I would think 12-15 of these would suffice.

Grid_2x2 = The 2x2 grid section has 4 full tile spots and 1/2 tile spot on all sides. This one is A1-mini compatible. Also these "support" the Grid_2x4 sections. One could print only these, would need a bunch, but they are very flexible given their smaller size.

Grid_2x4 = The 2x4 section has 8 full tile spots and 1/2 tile spot on all sides. I created this, because the 3x3_Grid was too big for my Carcassonne box. The nature of these is such that they are not as flexible as the 3x3 in how they connect to each other. The 2x4 work well with the 2x2 and if going this route should print a set of both 2x2 and 2x4. (I recommend 8 of the 2x4 and 8 of the 2x2 to start).

Tile_Holder = The Tile_Holder holds a group of tiles together (imagine that). This will work with any size sections and can stack different sizes and that works fine. The design here is it is in two parts a base and then the screw top. The threaded top allows for it to account for varying stack heights. Fully screwed in, this will hold up to 12 sections, but can hold as much as 18-19 sections.

For me I actually use all 3 sizes, as I printed a bunch to make sure they all worked to my satisfaction, so there is kind of a game in the game, trying to lay out the grid in how you anticipate the board growing.

GridWith2x2Spot All sizes : This profile contains versions of each size grid that has spot for the larger 2x2 starting tile, like one that comes with “Mist of Carcassonne”. Thanks to @AviActual for suggesting this and confirming this version works as expected.

Tile Spot Sizes

The spaces for tiles are 45.8 mm square. This size was determined by my tiles. What I discovered was that my base set tiles were about 1mm smaller than expansion tiles that were added. The moral of this story is, there is variability across versions/print runs of these games. Needless to say, my 45.8 size was derived from the larger tiles in my set.
