SHOGUN plays on an 8×8 grid, with each player having 7 Pawns and 1 King, which start lined up on opposite sides of the board. Each player can remove the other's pieces by moving onto them, as in chess.
What sets this game apart is that there are numbers (1 to 4) on each game piece (cube-shaped). After a piece is moved, a white dice is rolled indicating the number of moves that piece can make on future turns (1 to 4). Originally designed in 1976 as a digital game (magnets) with the unique ability to change the value of playing pieces after the piece had moved. Dice are now used in this updated 3D printed version. Simply row the white die after your move to determine the new value of your game piece.
Note: The red die is only for the KIng piece as it can only have a value of 1 or 2.
Moving your Game Pieces
You may move any one of your game pieces on your turn. The movement value is determined by the number on the game piece. You may move horizontally or vertically or any combination that adds up to you game piece value. The movement does not have to be in a straight line and may turn any direction horizontally or vertically. After your move, roll the die to determine the game piece's new value.
Capturing your opponent's Game Pieces
You can remove an opponents game piece by occuping the same space as your move and if your piece has a higher number. You can not move to a piece with the same or higher number on it.
Winning the Game
You win by reducing your opponent down to his King and one Pawn or by playing the King in a checkmate position.
The fully 3D Printed game is complete with all playing pieces, game board and bookcase style box to be stored on a shelf.
Information
All parts were printed with PLA filament. I use a textured plate for adhesion. Some parts will need to be superglued, for example, the book spines are glued to the square cornered side of the bookcase box. The dice inserts are glued to the dice body.
Countless hours have gone into the collection and I hope to continue to expand the collection based on continued interest. Some of the games are long and large prints.
