Minimalist Container for Mexican Train Double 12 Domino set.

Designer's Description

This is a very simple and compact container for storing a complete Mexican Train Domino set using a 91 piece double 12 set of tiles.

I made this as a simple storage solution for my fully printable game set, but since I modeled each of the necessary components of the set after sets that are commercially available, it should also function well for those who've built their Mexican Train sets from purchased items.

I went with 2mm thick walls on both the box and lid to minimize distortion under the weight of what turned out to be a heavy set that was printed with 100% infill.

I've included two lids with this model, an unlabeled single color lid that can be printed on virtually any FDM printer, and a lid with a logo that must be sliced with the logo for printing on machines capable of printing in multiple colors. Both lids have a 1mm thick partition who's purpose is simply to hold my engines in place on the right side of the case during transport.

Both top and bottom of this case should print easily on most machines without any need for supports. Both pieces do have a rather large footprint on the build plate, so I recommend ensuring good bed adhesion for whatever material you opt to print this in. I printed the box portion on a Creality Ender 3 Pro on a textured PEI build plate in Hobby Lobby green PLA, and lid with logo on a Flashforge Creator 5 Pro in PETG, simply because that's the material I currently have loaded on it.

I'll say that printing an entire 91 piece double 12 tile set is a time consuming process that may be less economical that outright purchasing a manufactured set, so it may make more sense to start with an inexpensive commercial set. Still, I'll link all of the components I used in my set below:

For those who want to absolutely torture themselves printing an entire 91 piece domino set on a single material machine requiring perhaps hours of gluing for assembly, my original 91 piece set is available here:

Lastly, while they won't store in this case since they're so large, I've found these "stair stepped" Domino trays to be fantastic for tile visibility during game play:
