Ethnos 2nd Edition + Promo Pack Inserts
These board game inserts for Ethnos 2nd Edition comfortably fit everything from the base game and the Promo Pack. The tray on the top that holds the Koi and Platypus boards is held in place with embedded magnets which helps keeps all the cardboard below it in place when the box is in transit. However, the magnets are optional and I have also provided prints that don't use magnets. The fox and prestige tokens have their own separate removable trays. I have included sleeved and un-sleeved versions, although I have only printed the un-sleeved version myself. If anyone prints the sleeved version, I would appreciate a comment to say if it worked for you or not.
You will need to print the following:
- 1x Main tray (choose one of the 4 types)
- 1x Sub-tray (choose one of the 2 types)
- 6x Player trays
- 1x Prestige token tray
•1x Raccoon coins tray
PRINTS WITH THE EMBEDDED MAGNETS
If you do want to use magnets you will need 8x cylindrical 6x3 mm (6 mm diameter, 3 mm length) neodymium magnets. Four are used in the main tray and 4 are used in the sub-tray that holds the Koi and Playtpus boards. N52 magnets work best as they are the strongest. You can buy these easily from Amazon or AliExpress. Note that my magnets were actually typically between 2.7 and 2.8 mm in length. If your magnets are actually 3.0 mm then they won't work, but I can make a new version that will support them. I printed trays at 0.2 mm layer height. If printing with magnets, you need to put a pause in the prints to drop the magnets in. For the main tray put the pause between layer 300 and 301. On my slicer, that required putting a pause on layer 301 since it does that at the start of the layer. For the sub-tray put a pause between layer 16 and 17 (ie layer 17 in the slicer). I have included a test print that will allow you to check if you can drop the magnets in comfortably. It is "Magnet Test.3mf" and requires a pause between layer 16 and 17. When you drop the magnet in, it might require a small amount of force to push it all the way down. It should be flush with, or slightly below, the top of the print. If the magnet sits above the rest of the print, I would not print with the embedded magnets as it might damage the nozzle.
For the main tray, you will need to put a small dot of super glue (cyanoacrylate adhesive) on the bottom of each magnet before putting them in place and give them a minute to dry and bond with the plastic. Test if the magnet is dry by trying to use another magnet to lift it out. If you don't glue the magnets in, then they may be lifted out of the holes when the printhead moves over them. My printer has a PEI build plate and the magnets in both the magnet test print and the sub-tray get held in place nicely because of their attraction to the build plate so I don't use super glue on those ones. If you have a glass build plate or one that is not magnetic or steel then you need to use a dot of super glue on the bottom of each magnet before inserting them as well. It goes without saying that you need to ensure that your magnets are aligned properly so that the sub-tray is attracted to the main tray instead of repelled by it.
